Narendra Damodardas Modi was sworn in as the 16th Prime Minister of India a short while ago. In a grand ceremony at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 30th, 2019 evening, President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath of office and secrecy to Modi and his Cabinet ministers.

President Kovind administered the oath to Cabinet Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, DV Sadananda Gowda, Nirmala Sitharaman, Ram Vilas Paswan, Naren Singh Tomar, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Thawar Chand Gehlot, S Jaishankar,Ramesh Pokhriyal, Arjun Munda, Smriti Irani, Harsh Vardhan, Prakash Javadekar, Piyush Goyal, Dharmendra Pradhan, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Prahlad Joshi, Mahendra Nath Pandey, Arvind Sawant, Giriraj Singh,  Gajendra Singh Sekhawat, Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Rao Indrajit Singh, Shripad Naik, Jitendra Singh, Kiren Rijiju, Prahlad Patel, RK Singh, HS Puri, Mansukh L Mandaviya, Faggan Singh Kulaste, Arjun Meghwal, Ashwini Choubey, VK Singh, Krishan Pal Gurjar, Kishan Reddy, Parshottam Rupala, Ramdas Athawale, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, Babul Supriyo, Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, Sanjay Shamrao Dhotre, Anurag Singh Thakur, Suresh Angadi, Nityanand Rai, Rattan Lal Kataria, V. Muraleedharan, Renuka Singh, Som Parkash, Rameswar Teli, Pratap Chandra Sarangi, Kailash Choudhary and Debasree Chaudhuri at the swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on May 30th, 2019.

Out of 58 ministers, 25 took oath as cabinet ministers, 24 as Minister of States and nine took oath of Independent charge.

The venue was packed with more than 8,000 dignitaries, including the leaders of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation, including President of Bangladesh Abdul Hamid, Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister of Nepal KP Sharma Oli, President of Myanmar U Win Myint, Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering among others.

Others included Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, former PM Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, party vice-president Rahul Gandhi and other important political leaders. Incumbent Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and children’s rights activist Kailash Satyarthi were also present.

Chief Ministers of several states including Assam’s Sarbananda Sonowal and NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma were also present. The leaders of allies of the BJP in Assam – Asom Gana Parishad’s Atul Bor and Bodoland Peoples’ Front’s Hagrama Mohilary were also present.

Among the Bollywood personalities, superstar Rajinikanth, veteran playback singer Asha Bhosle, directors Madhur Bhandarkar, Rajkumar Hirani and Karan Johar, Kangana Ranaut, Anupam Kher, Boney Kapoor, Jeetendra, Shahid Kapoor were also present.

Industrialists Ratan Tata, Lakshmi Mittal, Mukesh Ambani and his family members and Gautam Adani among others were also present.

The biggest oath-taking ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan ever since Independence had three bands to provide the musical accompaniment. The swearing-in held in the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan is said to be the biggest-ever event held in the historic place.
