The road to success is not easy. Diana Ningombam, an international taekwondo player, is a perfect example of this. She has been selling fruit salads on the streets of Manipur just to raise funds for her upcoming tournaments. A photo of the plater selling salads has now surfaced on social media with netizens hailing her ‘never say die’ attitude.
Diana who has reportedly won 15 medals at the national level as well as in international events, including a silver in Kukkiwon, South Korea in 2018 wakes up at 3 am daily and prepares the days fruit salads and sells them from 4 am to 7 am.
Later in the evening, she goes for her practice at the Langjing Achouba Makha Leikai, a local sports complex, where she has been preparing for an upcoming tournament which will be held in Hong Kong.
With the money she earns by selling fruit salads, Diana tries to cover the expenditure of her diet, equipment and training required for her sport. Her father, who works as a printing machine mechanic, has not been keeping well and her mother works at a bazaar to support the family.
“All of us can do the work and earn money whenever we need. Though I’m a player, I think I too can do the same. That’s the reason why I started to sell fruit salads,” said Diana as quoted by the Daily Hunt.
Diana, who earns around Rs 300-400 daily, is receiving immense encouragement from her customers and passersby ever since a picture of her selling fruit salads went viral on social media.
The alumni of Churachand Maharaj Higher Secondary School 1993-95 batch also extended financial aid to Diana at her residence in Sagolband Tera Loukrakpam Leikai on April 29th, 2019.
