NIA gets custody of 3 NSCN-K militants arrested in Meghalaya

Guwahati, July 9: Three National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Khaplang (NSCN-K) militants, arrested from West Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya in May, have been handed over by a court to the National Investigating Agency (NIA) for 10 days’ custodial interrogation, as per reports.

The self-styled ‘revenue secretary’ of NSCN-K, Gaising Maringmei, identified as Ronal, and his two accomplices were arrested on May 13-14 from Mookyniang locality in Khliehtyrshi village, about 15 km from West Jaintia Hills district headquarter.

Another person, who was acting as a courier for the militant outfit, was also arrested on May 14 from a hotel in Shillong, as per reports.

Gaising reported told police that a private firm, which is having construction works in Manipur, had recently paid him Rs 25 lakh as ransom money.

As per reports, Gaising’s wife was carrying Rs 13 lakh to Imphal on the day he was arrested. However, she too was arrested after the Manipur police intercepted the bus in which she was traveling.
