GUWAHATI: The scientists of the National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL) and the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER)-Guwahati have succeeded to manufacture a rare Reference Material to be used in chemical testing in anti-doping.
In August 2020, the two national scientific institutes signed an MoU with the avowed objectives to carry out multidisciplinary research and development activities in the areas of synthesis and characterization of certain drugs and their metabolites used by dope testing laboratories the world over.
Further, it is envisaged that the knowledge-sharing between the two Institutes in the specified areas will immensely help facilitate not only in the synthesis of standards of rare drugs or metabolites prohibited in human sports but also contribute to the cause of anti-doping science to a great extent.
Union minister of state for youth affairs and sports congratulating the institutes said that the new compound will be sent to all World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) labs free.
This will be the first time that such compound would be sent to the WADA labs.
“Congratulations to our scientists and technicians! Delighted that the combined efforts of NDTL & NIPER, Guwahati have resulted in India’s Anti-Doping program to move towards. India has now successfully synthesized the first Reference Material, p-OH-prenylamine. A great step towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat which will help in promoting clean sports,” Rijiju said.
