    No cinema halls to reopen in Assam; owners await govt SOPs

    Cinema halls in Assam remained closed on October 15, as the state government has not issued any SOPs

    Guwahati: Despite centre has allowed the cinema halls to reopen from October 15, cinema halls in Assam remained closed as the state have not issued any guidelines in this regard.

    People will have to wait as the official notification from the state government has not been issued as of now, said theatre owners and distributors.

    Although Assam government issued an order on Wednesday allowing the halls to reopen in areas outside the containment zones with maximum 50% capacity, but no specific guidelines or Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been provided to the theatres.

    Cinema halls across the country has to shut their doors in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown triggered by it.

    While speaking to some of the owners and managers of the theatres across the city, they said that opening with 50% capacity after months of lockdown will not even cover the loss which they suffered during the lockdown period.

    They also said that they have not been provided with films to any halls even though 10-12 multiplexes are ready to operate.

    However, the single screens will take some more days as they are observing the situation and public responses, they revealed.
