‘No Gamosa, No Xorai’: Assam govt decides to do away with felicitation programmes
Guwahati: No ministers and government officials will be felicitated with Gamosa or gift items in any official programs from now onwards.
On Thursday, Assam cabinet has decided to discontinue all such felicitation programs in official functions of the state.
Informing about the decision, state’s cabinet and education minister Ranoj Pegu told media, “It’s been decided that no ministers including the chief minister as well as senior officials will be felicitated or offered any gifts as a part of felicitation during any official events as we are the host.”
“However, if there is any union minister or dignitaries from other sectors from both outside or local present in the function, they will be felicitated,” the minister added.
The cabinet has also decided to implement a tree plantation event instead of felicitation to ministers while they were visiting any districts of the state to attend any functions.
Pegu added that the state cabinet has also decided that during official tours and public programmes, ministers will provide information only on schemes that are already part of Budget or any other government announcement.
He said, “In the interest of financial prudence, CM or other ministers not to make any fresh announcements without taking into consideration availability of adequate financial resources. However, after consulting departments, schemes can be taken up as per request made during the functions.”
Assam cabinet has also decided that the Budget session of Assam Assembly to commence on March 14.
