Guwahati: Amid the rising of COVID-19 positive cases in Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the Government of Assam is not planning to impose any ‘Lockdown’ of ‘Night Curfew’ in the state.
Addressing the media here in Guwahati on Thursday, Himanta said, “No question of lockdown or night curfew in Assam as of now. We are going with our old strategy ‘Test’ ‘Trace’ ‘Track’.”
Himanta also informed that the Health Department of Assam eyeing to conduct at least 1 lakh tests in the state ahead of the Rongali Bihu celebration this year.
“Yesterday we have conducted around 18,000 tests, today we targeting at least 35,000 tests, likewise we will conduct around 1 lakh tests in the state in next seven days. Amidst this process, there might be a spike in COVID-19 cases, however, I urge the people of Assam not to panic, as the health department is fully prepared to handle the COVID situation in Assam,” said Himanta.
Himanta also notified that there is a qualitative difference between the years 2020 and 2021, the mortality rate was higher compared to this year. “Today we are confident to handle the COVID situation, as all the health care personnel and doctors have been vaccinated. There is nothing to worry about,” assured Himanta.
Himanta further pointed out the fact that the Government of Assam will come up with an SOP ahead of the Rongali Bihu festival in Assam.
He also urged the people of Assam to remain alert of the COVID-19 situation and suggested people with the age group of 45 years and above to get themselves vaccinated as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal took his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) on Thursday.
