In a bid to extend a goodwill gesture to the women inmates and their children of Silchar Central Jail, the members of Inner Wheel Club, the women’s wing of Silchar Rotary Club came forward with stationery items, clothes, food packets and a teacher was assigned for the children.
As many as 15 children of female inmates in the jail were presented with books, copies, pencils and other stationery items. Also, the teacher will impart regular lessons to children aged between 3-8 years.
Jhumki Saha, President of the club said, “We want to empower the children of these female inmates who have no contact with the outside world. We are happy that we could do something for the children and I hope the children would benefit from the teacher assigned to them.”
Jailer Abhishek Sarkar and Jail Superintendent Satyendra Baishya expressed their gratitude to the efforts of the club and asked the female inmates to avail the benefits extensively.
