Now, Visitors Can Enjoy A Ride In Battery-Operated Cars In Guwahati Zoo

A visit to the Assam State Zoo Cum Botanical Garden in Guwahati will be a considerably different experience from now onwards. Assam Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya on August 1st, 2019 flagged off battery-operated cars, also known as golf carts, for the zoo visitors.

“The golf cart services have been reintroduced as it is essential and helpful for the visitors to enjoy the beauty of the zoo more comfortably. The battery-operated carts have been adopted in line with our commitment to creating an eco-friendly environment in the zoo,” said Suklabaidya.

Speaking to TIME8, Tejas Mariswamy, Divisional Forest Officer of Assam State Zoo said, “The battery-operated cars with a seating capacity of eight people will now provide visitors shade during the scorching summers and rains. People, irrespective of age, can enjoy the beauty of the zoo without any hassles.”

The battery-operated cars were first introduced three years back. “The vehicles were poorly maintained and were eventually left unused. This year, with the help of our sponsors, we repaired and finally re-launched the vehicles,” he added.

At present, only two battery-operated cars will be available from August 3rd, 2019. “We are also planning to introduce e-rickshaws in the zoo,” Mariswamy said.

It may be mentioned, the Assam State Zoo welcomed a pair of Asiatic Lion from the Sakkarbaug Zoo, Gujarat on August 1st, 2019. They were released into the enclosure by Suklabaidya.
