Shillong, October 4: NPP has taken the ladder forward by fixing Rs 30,000 as application fee from interested candidates whereas the Congress being the principal rival in Garo Hills has limited the application fee for their aspiring candidates at a non-refundable rate of Rs 500.
Rs 20,000 of the Rs 30,000 application fee will be kept with the treasurer of regional election committee, and the outstanding amount will be given to the district treasurer. The money will be used for election purposes.
A regional election committee was formed by state president WR Kharlukhi on Tuesday to invite applications from aspiring candidates for all the 24 seats in Garo Hills.
The regional committee has the power to decide on the assortment of candidates in the 24 Garo Hills constituencies, according to the notification.The list will be forwarded to the state election committee, after development by the regional committee, which will in turn forward it to the national election committee for declaration of the candidate’s final list.
The notification nevertheless stated that in rare cases, the state election committee may overrule the choice of the regional election committee. The national election committee will have a final say on decisions related to election matter within the party, also stated the notification.
