Guwahati: The Hojai Police have arrested a National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) member for allegedly writing in support of Paresh Baruah-led ULFA (I) on social media.

According to reports, the NSUI president of the Morajhar unit in Hojai Abdul Istak was arrested on Saturday from the Hatikhali area in Morajhar for his alleged Facebook post supporting banned ULFA (I).

A student of Rabindranath Tagore University in Hojai, Abdul in his Facebook post wrote, “It is because of ULFA (I) that Assam and its people are surviving; else the community would have been wiped out completely,”

Sources informed that the top police officials are currently interrogating the youth at the Morajhar police station.

Meanwhile, the Bongaigaon police arrested a youth for attempting to join proscribed ULFA (I). The boy named David Barman is from Daukijhar in the Bongaigaon district of Assam. He has been arrested by the police from his own home. As per police sources, the boy allegedly tried to communicate with ULFA by writing in support of the banned militant organization on social media platforms.

Police have already registered a case against David Barman at Bongaigain police station.

Further investigations are on.
