Guwahati: An oil thief, who was arrested on Friday, sustained bullet injuries after the police opened fire on him in Assam’s Nagaon district on Saturday.

The injured oil thief has been identified as Imdad Ali. According to sources, Ali was arrested from Merapani.

The incident occurred when Imdad tried to attack the police and flee from their custody. Then the police decided to shoot him. Following the incident, Ali received bullet injuries in his leg.

Currently, he is undergoing treatment at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in critical condition.

Meanwhile, Assam police arrested 10 people in connection with an oil theft case and also seized two oil tankers and a four-wheeler. However, police made arrests from various parts of Assam and Meghalaya. All accused were arrested from Hojai, Barpeta, Golaghat, Guwahati, Nagaon, and Meghalaya.

According to Assam Police, the arrested persons were identified as Pranjit Bora (39), Md Sukkur Ali (32), Bitu Singha, Ashir Uddin Hoque (30), Tapan Bania (23), Sagar Bora, Gopal Dey (52), Narayan Sarkar and Parul Hussain including Emdad Ali.
