GUWAHATI: The Oil India Limited on Wednesday urged the government of Assam to allot land for drilling relief wells in order to find an alternative route to continue with the well control operation at the PSU major’s damaged Baghjan 5 gas well.

The PSU major’s attempt to kill the spewing well miserably failed on Tuesday though it successfully capped the BOP in the previous day.

In an official statement, the Oil authority said, “After successful capping, attempt was made to kill the well by injecting killing fluids into the well. However, due to rapture of a casing valve the killing operation had to be suspended.”

The statement further said, “The well condition is being assessed for continuing with the well control operations. In the meanwhile several other options like drilling of relief wells are being actively evaluated. State government has again been requested to allot land for drilling relief wells.”

The repeated failures of the Oil has irked thousands of local Baghjan residents who are still cramped in different relief camps ever since the break out of the disaster.
