An on-duty jawan from Assam was killed after a multi-storey building collapsed in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan, following torrential rains in the capital city of Shimla on Sunday.
The deceased jawan, Pradip Ch Bhuyan originally hailed from Bhuyanpatty of Missa in Kaliabor sub-division of Assam’s Nagaon district. He was one among the 14 people, including Army personnel, who were killed in the building collapse in the hill district.
Bhuyan’s body was pulled out of the rubble as two teams of the National Disaster Response Force(NDRF) reached the site to carry out rescue operations. An additional team was deployed to help with the operations.
Bhuyan had joined the 4 Assam Regiment in the year 1988. He was recently promoted to Subedar-Major rank. He is survived by his wife, Manisha Pathak Bhuyan and two children, Suman Jyoti Bhuyan(19) and Dikshita Bhuyan.
A pall of gloom descended at his hometown in Kaliabor as the coffin wrapped in tricolour reached his home and the last rites were performed with full state honour on Tuesday night.
