Guwahati: The Kamrup (metro) district administration on Thursday has allowed maximum five persons to perform Holy Namaz at all the Masjids and Idgahs on August 1.
The decision was taken after the metro district administration discussed about it with the representatives of various Masjids and Idgah committees of the city on Wednesday.
An official order by the metro district deputy commissioner Biswajeet Pegu said, “The five persons gathered at the Masjids and Idgahs have to maintain social distancing at the time of performing Namaz and to wear mask mandatorily. Moreover, the place of offering Namaz must be santised before and after the Namaz.”
It added, “The remaining worshipers will perform Namaz at their respective residences by maintaining standing Covid 19 protocols. There will be no other relaxation further.”
Earlier on Sunday, the city Masjids and Idgah committees had said that there would be no congregational prayers during this Idd-ul-Azha, the much awaited festivities of the Islamic year.
The state government despite a blanket ban on inter-district movements of an individual had allowed people to travel on July 30 and 31 on the eve of the Eid celebrations.
Guwahati currently undergoing its Unlock 1 phase with partial relaxation for business establishments and both government and private offices. The city has been seeing a constant rise of Covid 19 cases. Thousands of cases have been reported from the city alone.
Assam has so far recorded 36295 Covid 19 cases with 92 deaths.
