Only Narendra Modi Could Do It: Kiren Rijiju On Scrapping Of Article 370

Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu on August 5th, 2019 passed the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill that seeks to scrap Article 370 and Article 35A in J&K, while also bifurcating the state into Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh

Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the scrapping of Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) was only possible under the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu on August 5th, 2019 passed the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill that seeks to scrap Article 370 and Article 35A in J&K, while also bifurcating the state into Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.  Ladakh will be a Union Territory without Assembly, Jammu and Kashmir will be a UT with Assembly.

Rijiju took to Twitter to hail the Modi government while reminiscing his election campaign ahead of the 17th General Elections at a remote village in Ladakh.

Stating that there is only ‘one India’, he tweeted, “I reminded this at a remote village in Ladakh during the last Lok Sabha election campaign. Union Territory is a long-cherished dream of the people of Ladakh. The decision to remove Article 370 is a monumental step towards National integration.”

Rijiju said that the BJP has specially mentioned the issue of withdrawing Article 370 in J&K in its election manifesto. “Ladakh had no power though it was made an autonomous council. Those who represent Srinagar hardly pays any heed to the demands and problems of the people of Ladakh.  Every ruling party has shown a step-motherly behaviour towards Ladakh.”
