Guwahati: The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati was alarmed on Friday following a ‘unconfirmed’ report that one of the junior assistants of the faculty affairs section was found Covid-19 positive.
IIT, Guwahati Dean for Public Relations, Branding and Ranking (PRBR), Parameswar K. Iyer said, “We are yet to receive the confirmation report. Presently, the employee is not inside the campus. He went on isolation after coming in contact with his housemaid, who was tested asymptomatic.”
Iyer stressed that the IIT, Guwahati authority has been strictly implementing the rules and guidelines of the department of health to contain the spread of the pandemic. “We are constantly in touch with the local administration and following the protocols issued to us.”
In the meantime, state’s Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, along with health and family welfare minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the institute premises on Friday evening itself and identified nearly 800 isolation bed facility.
“The nearly 800 isolation bed facility at IIT Guwahati will add to our infrastructure capacities to fight Covid-19,” Sonowal said.
“I thank the people of Guwahati for maintaining the total lockdown. Such cooperation and collective responsibility will help us contain the pandemic in a faster manner. At the same time, I urge the city residents to abide by the rules and restrictions as directed by the administration during the lockdown,” the Chief Minister added.
