    Over 1500 kg explosive seized in Meghalaya

    GUWAHATI: In a success, Meghalaya Police has seized around 1,525 kg of explosives and 6,000 detonators on Friday from the state’s East Jaintia Hills district.

    At least six persons were also held arrested in connection with the case.

    The seizures and arrests were made by police while conducting multiple operations based on a tip-off about possible movement of explosives.

    In the first, police while conducting raids in the 4 Kilo area of the district on Wednesday night, an SUV with Assam registration was intercepted at Kongong in the Ladrymbai police outpost area.

    “At least 10 cartons with 250 kg of explosives (2,000 gelatin sticks), 1,000 live detonators and eight rolls of fuse were found in the car,” said Assistant Inspector General of Police GK Iangrai. Two persons traveling in the vehicle were arrested.

    Following the revelation of the arrestees, police nabbed four more persons who led the police sleuth to a hideout in the 5 Kilo area in Khliehriat. During the search operation, another 51 cartons with approximately 1,275 kg of explosive (10,200 gelatine sticks), 5,000 detonators and eight rolls of fuse were seized.
