Over 400 train passengers skipped Covid 19 test at Jagiroad Rly station; 90 nabbed
GUWAHATI: Around 90 out of some 400 train passengers who allegedly skipped a mandatory Covid 19 test at Jagiroad railway station were nabbed by police till Monday morning.
They were nabbed from various areas of Morigaon, Nagaon and Mayong. Manhunt operation has been on to nab them all.
Mostly migrant workers, including women and children, had traveled by the Kanyakumari-Dibrugarh Vivek Express from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu and traversed Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal over five days.
A video of the incident in which the hundreds of passengers forcing their way out of the railway station despite the presence of policemen went viral.
In a similar incident, some 300 air passengers who landed at Assam’s Silchar airport skipped the mandatory Covid-19 test last month.
On Sunday, Assam reported a total of 3,563 new Covid19 cases and 72 more deaths, while the state’s overall positivity percentage was 5.68% on Sunday. Assam has made Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and RT-PCR tests mandatory at railway stations and airports.
