Hours after the publication of the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) on August 31st, 2019, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that the Indian government’s ‘ethnic cleansing of Muslims should send alarm bells ringing across the world’.
The Pakistan Prime Minister took to Twitter to react on the Assam NRC issue. He said that the ‘illegal annexation of Kashmir is part of a wider policy to target Muslims’.
“Reports in Indian and international media on Modi Govt’s ethnic cleansing of Muslims should send alarm bells ringing across the world that the illegal annexation of Kashmir is part of a wider policy to target Muslims,” Khan tweeted.
Reacting on the abrogating of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, Khan on August 30th, 2019 called for a nation-wide protest against the Modi-led government’s decision to show solidarity with the Kashmiri people.
The Pakistan Prime Minister in a series of tweets wrote that the “Indian government has been attempting a false flag operation to divert attention from its massive human rights violations and the unleashing of a reign of terror in IOJK.”
The Assam government on August 31st, 2019, officially released the final NRC list where names of 3,11,21,004 persons were found eligible for inclusion leaving out 19,06,657 persons including those who did not submit claims.
