Nagaon, November 8: Former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta said that to detect the loopholes in the party, it is important for the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) to contest the upcoming elections alone.
“The AGP should contest the Panchayat elections without forming an alliance with any party in order to become the strongest political party in Assam. I support the party’s decision,” he said.
He added, “Contesting alone will help us check our loopholes. Victory and defeat are parts of any game. We will emerge out as stronger.”
Mahanta also said that the party will continue to oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha to amend the Citizenship Act, 1955. The Bill amends the Citizenship Act, 1955 to make illegal migrants who are Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, eligible for citizenship.
