Papon Issue | Singer dropped from Show, Maha Govt orders probe

Guwahati/Mumbai, February 24: Things getting more serious for the Assam singer Papon as Maharashtra government issued direction for a thorough Police investigation into the matter of the singer involving in a sexual act with a minor.

After a legal petition filed against Papon by advocate Runa Bhuyan before the Supreme Court, now Minister of State Women and Child Welfare Vidya Thakur has stepped into the matter and directed Mumbai Police to investigate the entire case.

Reportedly, Thakur discussed the Papon issue with the Commissioner of Police, Mumbai and asked him to initiate an investigation soon.

Also, Papon has been reportedly dropped from the TV reality show where he was one of the Judges, though it was not made public by the channel, sources close to Papon revealed that he will not appear in the next episodes of the show.

The controversy began after the Papon uploaded a video of him celebrating Holi shoot with the young contestants at the set of a singing reality show, on his social media site. The video showed Papon applying colour to a contestant and later kissing her on the lips. The said video instantly got viral and many found it inappropriate.

A Supreme Court lawyer has filed a petition against Papon under the POCSO Act (Protection of Children against Sexual Offences) and said that she is shocked and concerned about the safety of the children in the TV reality shows.

No support for Papon from the Bollywood fraternity has come so far neither anyone issued any statement against him. Although last night, famous singer Zubeen Garg issued a statement supporting Papon saying that he knows Papon since long and he cannot have any intention of doing such act and he appealed to people to remain calm.
