Guwahati, January 12: Pro-talk ULFA leader Anup Chetia on Saturday said that there is a “government lobby” which keeps backing people like Gauhati High Court advocate and founder-president of All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students Association, Pradip Dutta Roy, MLAs Shiladitya Dev, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha to fuel the “feelings of communalism” between Assamese and Bengali speaking people.
“We always want to live peacefully with the Bengali, Bhojpuri and Marwadi community people. But the government is always on our back. They arrested us for making communally instigating remarks but spared people like Shiladitya, Tapodhir Bhattacharjee, Pradip Dutta Roy, Kamalakhya among others…”, said Chetia.
Chetia was summoned by the Dispur Police Station on Saturday on the charge of gheraoing the Bharatiya Janata Party office here on January 6.
“Three women who joined the BJP office gherao programme had come to our office to use the washroom and a bus carrying the protesters was parked outside our office which made the police believe that the gherao programme was planned by us,” he added.
