Guwahati: With the beginning of phase III of the National Vaccine Strategy from May 1, Assam to procure more than 5 lakh COVID 19 Vaccines by GOI (371480 Covishield; 128830 Covaxin) for 18+ people through funds of Assam Arogya Nidhi.
The vaccination will be free for all the citizens of Assam, informed Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday on his official Twitter handle.

In a letter to the Principal Secretary, Department of Health and Family welfare, Samir Kumar, the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of health and family welfare Vikas Sheel wrote, “Based on the discussions with the manufactures of vaccines for facilitating a smooth roll-out of the next phase of expanded vaccination programme in your state, 371480 number of Covishield vaccine doses of Serum Institute of India, Pune and 128830 number of Covaxin vaccine doses of Bharat Biotech International Ltd, Hyderabad are likely to be available for your state.”
The state may, therefore, take necessary action to obtain supplies for commencing vaccination from May 1, 2021 as per policy guidelines issued earlier by the Ministry of health and family welfare.
Earlier, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal appealed to the people of Assam above 18 yrs of age to avail COVID 19 vaccine as soon as possible.
