PIL in Delhi HC for removal of Amitabh Bachchan caller tune on COVID-19 awareness

The plea stated that Bachchan neither has a ‘clean history’ nor has ‘served’ the nation through ‘social work' and was not fit for the job

NEW DELHI: A ‘public interest litigation’ (PIL) has been filed before the Delhi High Court seeking the court’s intervention in directing the Centre to remove Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan ‘s voiceover from the Covid-19 caller -tune.

The plea stated that Bachchan neither has a ‘clean history’ nor has ‘served’ the nation through ‘social work’ and was not fit for the job.

Citing Amitabh Bachchan ’s previous records and cases in which Bacchan was a party, the petitioner, one Rakesh, who claimed to be a social worker, has sought the removal of Bachchan’s voiceover from the Covid-19 caller -tune.

Rakesh also claimed that there are many other Covid-19 warriors who have been serving the nation in various forms during the pandemic and also fit for the job and Bachchan who also got paid for his voiceover was not an ideal choice for the same.

The petitioner also mentioned a writ petition moved by the National Organization for Tobacco Eradication before the Bombay High Court for alleged violation of the Anti-Tobacco Act by him for endorsing e-cigarettes and a writ petition pending adjudication on maintainability, filed by Bachchan challenging the declaration of farming land allotment to him, before the Allahabad High Court.

The court though has not issued notice on the petition yet, listed it for hearing on Jan 18
