PM announces Rs 90, 000 Crores for Northeast road development

Shillong, December 16: For improving the existing road conditions and for construction of National Highways in the Northeast, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today announced to extend a support of Rs 90, 000 crore out of which Rs 60, 000 crores was granted under Special Accelerated Road Development Project (SARDP) and another Rs 30, 000 crores under Bharatmala.

Construction of a two-lane national highway of 271 km linking Tura and Shillong has also been declared by the Prime Minister who was in a two-day visit in Northeast.

Reportedly, Modi also said that Central government has sanctioned national highway of around 4, 000 km connecting entire Northeast region at a cost of Rs 32, 000 crores and that 1, 200 km of road has also already been constructed.
