GUWAHATI: Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), the newly floated regional party led by former All Assam Students’ Union leader Lurinjyoti Gogoi, alleged the Sarbananda Sonowal led state government of ‘hoodwinking’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi by inviting him to distribute land pattas in the state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to hand over land pattas to locals on January 23 at Jerenga Pathar in the Sivasagar district.
AJP said that while a land patta can be issued by a district circle officer only, the state government was only mocking the Prime Minister by asking him to do so.
“It’s funny! The PM is hoodwinking the entire country and the Assam government is hoodwinking the PM only. The state government wants to show off that giving away land pattas is a huge task but issuing land pattas to the settlers is only an official process. It’s happening for ages, there is nothing new,” said AJP coordinator Jagadish Bhuyan.
AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi alleged that while the state government has failed to implement the recommendations of the Brahma Committee and to allot land to lakhs of displaced people of the state, the PM’s function is nothing but an eyewash.
Gogoi said, “The government is only trying to mislead the people of the state. In Assam, there are some 4, 75000 families of indigenous people who were displaced due to natural disasters and still crying for rehabilitation. AJP wants the PM to answer how many of them were allotted land pattas.”
AJP, the regional political party launched under the aegis of AASU and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), has also said that its poll preparation was in full swing. The party is scheduled to finish setting up over 27900 poll booths of the party across the state within this month.
