Guwahati: Former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi came down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and alleged the latter of not fulfilling his promises for tackling Assam flood and erosion.
Gogoi accused the PM of making ‘jhumlas’ after ‘jhumlas’ for the entire region and showing a fake affection in his words.
The former chief minister alleged, “While Modi visited flood-affected areas of Assam on August 1, 2017, the Prime Minister announced to release immediately Rs.250cr for flood, Rs.400 cr for erosion and Rs100 cr to study flood and erosion. But not a single rupee has been released yet.”
He said that despite the PM has been seeing wearing the Assamese ‘gamocha’ often and taking about the entire northeast in the Maan ki Baat sessions, the PM has not taken steps to tackle the region’s real issues.
Gogoi added, “A total of Rs.2350 cr for the northeastern region but not a single rupee has been released. It is going to be another jhumla.”
This year, Assam has witnessed a devastating flood with over 100 people died and over 56 lakh people being affected since May 22 when the first flood wave hit the state.
