Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of any damage due to the earthquake in the region of Assam over the telephone.
PM Modi on Monday called up Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to express his concern and solidarity with the people of the state.
Informing about the matter, CM Sonowal takes to Twitter saying, “PM Shri @narendramodi ji last night took stock of any damage due to the earthquake in the region, over telephone. I was glad to inform him that no damage was reported in Assam. My hearfelt thanks to Modi ji for always keeping the welfare of Assam, a top priority.”
Notably, an earthquake measuring 5.4 magnitude on the Richter scale hits Sikkim and other parts of the northeastern states including Assam and Meghalaya at around 8:49 pm on Monday evening.
Neighbouring states like West Bengal and Bihar have also felt the tremble, as per reports.
Tremors were also felt in neighbouring countries like Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh.
As per a report by the National Centre of Seismology, the earthquake was recorded at a shallow depth of 10 km with its epicenter in the Sikkim-Nepal border.
No casualty has been reported as a result of the quake.
