Launching a blistering attack, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had taken to his official Twitter handle and called out Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being a ‘liar’.
The Congress leader also shared a video from a news agency that spoke about a detention centre in Goalpara district of Assam.
“The Prime Minister of the RSS lies to Mother India,” Gandhi tweeted in Hindi, along with an edited clip of PM Modi’s speech at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan. The Congress MP also added the hashtag #JhootJhootJhoot (Lies, Lies, Lies).
Earlier this month, Modi had denied the existence of any detention centres in India. The Prime Minister blamed the Congress of misleading the youth with an intention of dividing the nation. Modi also requested the youth of the country to read the Citizenship Amendment Act in detail.
Modi’s speech on detention camp at Ramlila Maidan, Delhi
“Congress aur urban Naxals ke dwara udai gayi detention centres ka afwa, sara sar jhooth hai. Bad iraade wali hai, desh ko barbad karne wali hai, ye napak irada se bhari hai, ye jhooth hai, jhooth hai, jhooth hai (Congress and urban Naxals are spreading rumours about detention centres. It is totally false. This is being done with a bad intention to destroy the country, it’s filled with evil intention; this is a lie, lie, lie),” Modi said on December 22nd, 2019 while addressing a rally in the national capital.
“Koi desh ke Musalamano ko na detention centre bheja jaa raha hai, na Hindustan me koi detention centre hai. Ye safed jhoot hai…. (Neither are any of the country’s Muslims being sent to detention centres nor is there any detention centre in India. It’s a white lie),” PM added.
There are six detention camps in Assam and are housed within district jails. The camps in Goalpara, Kokrajhar, Silchar, Dibrugarh, Jorhat and Tezpur house those declared foreigners by the foreigners’ tribunals (FTs). The ‘foreigners’ are lodged separately from the other inmates in these camps.
BJP’s Amit Malviya dares Rahul to experience life in a ‘detention centre’
Meanwhile, BJP’s IT cell chief Amit Malviya on December 26th, 2019 took to Twitter and slammed Gandhi for spreading lies about detention centres in India.
The BJP leader urged the Congress leader to experience for himself how countries treat illegal migrants. Malviya stated that since Gandhi travels abroad quite often, he should once stay beyond his valid visa permit and experience life in a ‘detention centre’ before being deported back to India.
