    Police open fire at cattle smuggling kingpin in Assam’s Barpeta

    The notorious smuggler had been absconding for the past one month. A lot of cases have already been registered against him for theft, robbery, and kidnapping.

    Guwahati: Mastermind of cattle smuggling syndicate, Mozammil Haque was seriously injured in a police firing while he was trying to flee from custody on Wednesday night.

    The incident occurred in the Barpeta district of Assam where the accused tried to attack police to escape from custody. Reportedly, Haque surrendered before Barpeta police on Tuesday.

    The notorious smuggler had been absconding for the past one month. A lot of cases have already been registered against him for theft, robbery, and kidnapping.

    The accused was immediately sent to Fakhrudding Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital in Barpeta.

    Assam ADGP GP Singh informed about the incident on Twitter. He wrote, “One Mozammil Haque arrested by @Barpeta_Police in connection with cattle smuggling tried to use force and escape from lawful custody. The police had to use fire arms to prevent escape. He has been grievously injured and shifted to hospital.”

    In another incident on Wednesday night, most wanted criminal Bubu Konwar was gunned down in an encounter with Assam police at Geleki area in Sivasagar district of Assam.

    As per police reports, ‘supari killer’ Bubu Konwar was engaged in multiple criminal activities for the past 22 years, which includes 42 cases of murder, 30 kidnapping cases, several cases of extortion, and car theft.
