Guwahati: Utter chaos was seen at Tikri border between Haryana and Delhi on Republic Day as farmers knocked down police barricades to enter the national capital.
Farmers from Punjab and Haryana, among other states, have led a Tractor rally at Delhi borders to protests against the Centre’s farm laws on the occasion of 72nd Republic Day.
Thousands of protesters joined the farmers’ tractor rally – Kissan Parade – this morning near the Singhu border. Policemen fired tear gas shells and used mild lathi-charge on the protesting farmers at several areas in Delhi.
Reportedly, security personnel tried hard to convince the farmers that they have been given permission to hold their tractor parade in Delhi after the Republic Day parade at the Rajpath concludes. But some groups of farmers did not relent and started moving towards the Outer Ring Road breaking police barricades.
Tractors bearing flags could be seen, along with men and women dancing on dhols, and locals on both sides of the road showering petals on cavalcades. Farmers also marched on foot in large numbers holding flags of different farmers unions and raising slogans.
