Guwahati: The Leader of Opposition Parties (LoP) Debabrata Saikia has vehemently denied the allegations of suspended Congress MLA from Sherman Ali Ahmed who claimed that the party has barred him from raising voice in favour of Muslim minority community of the state.
On Thursday, Ahmed hinting of quitting Congress claimed that none of his supporters have advised him to abide by the conditions given by the party.
Earlier, Ahmed sought more time from the party to submit his reply to a show cause served to him for allegedly working against the interest of the party and insulting Assam agitation martyrs.
Saikia said, “It’s a lie that the party has stopped him from speaking in favour of Muslim minorities. The party only asked him not to make public statements about the party and its members. I believe he is almost sure to leave the party.”
Earlier Ahmed said that he has discussed the matter with his supporters in his constituency of Baghbar and none of them has asked him to abide by the party’s condition to stop speaking in favour of minorities of the state.
Sources said that Ahmed has been in touch with All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) as well as Trinamool Congress parties and may soon quit Congress.
