GUWAHATI: The Gauhati high court has asked both the Centre and Assam government to file their reply on the status of people who allegedly fled from West Bengal due to post-poll violence in the neighbouring state and took refuge in the border areas of Assam.
A division bench of chief justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and justice Manash Ranjan Pathak has also asked the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights on the condition of the children in the makeshift camps in Assam.
The court was responding to two public interest litigation petitions on the issue of the internally displaced persons forced to flee West Bengal and take refuge in Assam’s bordering district.
The court fixed July 14 as the next date of hearing.
