Pratima Barua Pandey’s daughter Alaka Pandey to contest from Gauripur in RJD ticket

GUWAHATI: The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Assam unit on Sunday said that Hastir Kanya famed Padmashree Pratima Barua Pandey’s daughter Alaka Pandey will contest from Gauripur legislative assembly constituency in RJD ticket in the ensuing Assam assembly polls scheduled for 2021.

RJD Assam president SS Mustafa said, “We will pitch around 50 candidates in the ensuing Assam assembly polls. Alaka Pandey is one of the promising candidates of the RJD.”

Mustafa said, “The RJD had been an alliance of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government led by the Congress. In Assam, in accordance with the appeal made by the Left Democratic Alliance, we also favour an alliance of all the opposition political parties, excluding the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) to oust the ruling BJP from Dispur in 2021.”

Talking to Time8, Alaka Pandey said, “Different political parties have approached me for joining and to contest from my home constituency Gauripur. However, I had a cordial meeting with the Assam RJD on September 17. Being fascinated with the RJD’s political agenda, I consent them for joining the party.”

Alaka further said, “I believe the RJD will provide me with a reliable and good political platform to serve my people. My intention is to revive the lost legacy of my ancestors.”
