    Pre-Matric scholarship scam: CID files chargesheet against 32 accused

    The CID has arrested 32 accused for allegedly misappropriating pre-matric scholarship funds worth about Rs 10 crore, meant for economically disadvantaged minority students.

    Guwahati: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) filed a chargesheet against 32 persons in connection with the pre-matric scholarship scam in the state.

    The chargesheet was filed in the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Kamrup (M) on Thursday under the Indian Penal Code – 120(B)/406/409/419/420/468/471/109/201/34 and Information Technology Act – 66C/66D.

    The CID has arrested 32 accused for allegedly misappropriating pre-matric scholarship funds worth about Rs 10 crore, meant for economically disadvantaged minority students.

    During the course of investigation, several facts were revealed which led to amalgamation of the CID case. 64 number of seizure were done during the investigation which includes 14 laptops, 13 mobile phones, 2 hard disk, 1 CPU, 1 DVR, 1 finger print scanner, besides large number of incriminating documents from various districts of the state.

    The charge sheet has been submitted in 86 days from the date of first arrest in the case. It has been filed within stipulated period time while all 32 arrested accused persons are still in judicial custody, the CID revealed in a statement.

    The charge sheet runs into 7,386 pages. In addition to this case, diary of the case runs into 1880 pages. 220 numbers of persons have been named as prosecution witnesses (PWs). The statement of 10 numbers of witnesses has also been recorded by Judicial Magistrate under the provision of section 164 CrPC, it further stated.
