President Ram Nath Kovind lays foundation of 150-foot-tall bronze statue of Bir Lachit Borphukan

Guwahati: The President of India Ram Nath Kovind on Friday laid the foundation of a 150-foot bronze statue of Bir Lachit Borphukan, a war museum among other facilities to be built at his memorial in an area extended by over 16.5 acres at Hollongapar, Jorhat.

The president also laid the base of a war memorial ‘Alaboi Ranakshetra’ to honour the valour of Bir Lachit Borphukan and his 10,000 troops martyred at Alaboi, Kamrup.

The memorial campus of 25 acres will feature a 100-foot ‘Hengdang’.

It is to be noted that the president arrived in Guwahati on Friday morning at around 11:30 am for his three-day visit to Assam.

Kovind was received by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport, along with Governor Jagdish Mukhi and other dignitaries.

The president then offered his prayers at the Kamakhya Temple along with CM Sarma and Governor Mukhi.

It may further be mentioned that president Kovind during his 3-day visit to the state will also attend the convocation ceremony at the Tezpur University and visit the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve.
