Assam government declared a public holiday on February 7th, 2020, in fours BTAD districts to celebrate the Bodo Accord.
The Governor of Assam is pleased to declare 7th February 2020 as Public Holiday in view of the celebration of “Bodo Accord” in the Districts of BTAD – Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri for enabling the participation of people. All state Government offices within the jurisdiction of above-mentioned districts will remain closed on the day,” a notification issued by M Angamuthu, Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Assam, General Administration department stated.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kokrajhar to participate in the celebrations of the signing of the Bodo Agreement.
More than 4,00,000 people from the BTAD districts and all over Assam are expected to attend the programme. A cultural programme of ethnic groups of Assam has been organised by the Assam Government to showcase the diversity of the state, according to a PIB statement.
The Union home ministry on January 27th, 2020 signed a historic Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) with all the factions of National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) and Assam government.
The tripartite agreement was signed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, the top leadership of the four factions of the NDFB and the Centre. The ABSU, which has been spearheading the statehood movement, was also a signatory.
