A five-member delegation from Punjab who met the Meghalaya Home Minister James K. Sangma on June 20th, 2019 has ensured the security of each person belonging to the Sikh Community settled in Shillong.
The delegation, led by Punjab minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa visited Meghalaya following reports of Sikh community members being asked to leave the state by the higher authorities.
The team requested the Home Minister to ensure the security of the hundreds of Sikh families who have been residing in the Punjabi Lane area of Shillong for decades now.
During the meeting, a delegation headed by Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa also dashed off a letter addressed to Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to the Home Minister.
The authorities had served notices to the residents of Punjabi Lane directing them to furnish documents by July 3rd, 2019 to prove that they had settled in the area legally.
