Guwahati, April 21, 2019

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for Gauhati Lok Sabha seat Queen Oja on April 21st, 2019 took out a bike rally in Guwahati. Oja was seen riding pillion with Batadrava legislator Angoorlata Deka.

The rally was flagged off by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal as the party workers chanted Aakou Ebar, Modi Sarkar (Once again Modi government). “Today’s massive participation resonates the clarion call of #IndiaBoleNaMoPhirSe,” tweeted Sonowal. Assam Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya was also present.

The campaign for the third phase of Lok Sabha elections is set to conclude at 5 pm on April 21st, 2019. The election for Dhubri, Kokrajhar (ST), Barpeta and Gauhati Lok Sabha seats will take place in the third phase slated on April 23rd, 2019.

The Congress has put up candidates in all the four seats. The BJP is contesting from Gauhati and its allies Asom Gana Parishad from Barpeta and Dhubri and Bodoland People’s Front from Kokrajhar.

Gauhati is also the only constituency of Assam where both the major parties have fielded woman candidates in the ongoing parliamentary elections. As many as 17 candidates are in the fray for the Gauhati seat.

This year, the BJP and Congress have emerged as the key contenders in the constituency. The main contest is likely to be between Oja and Congress’ Bobbeeta Sharma.

With the highest number of  21,78,617 voters among all the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam, the 7 No Gauhati Lok Sabha seat has 11,00,746 are male, 10,77,793 are female and 78 Third Gender voters.

The Gauhati Lok Sabha seat comprises 10 LAC segments – Dudhnoi, Boko, Chaygaon, Palasbari, Hajo, Jalukbari, Dispur, Gauhati East, Gauhati West and Barkhetri.
