Guwahati, July 12: The students of the Assam Agricultural University (AAU) demanded a CBI inquiry into the murder of Radha Kumari in Sivasagar district on Tuesday. The students of the AAU have also written to chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal in this regard.
A condolence meeting was held on the Jorhat campus of the AAU on Wednesday, where vice-chancellor KM Bujarbaruah, students, teachers and scientists of the various Krishi Vigyan Kendras were present.
“To find out the culprit or culprits who killed Radha, we have written to the chief minister demanding a CBI inquiry,” said Sarat Sekhar Bora, general secretary of the students.
On the other hand, the residents along with the activists of All Tai Ahom Students’ Union, All Assam Students’ Union, Upper Assam Muslim Kalyan Parishad, Brihattar Asom Yuva Mancha among others demanded justice for Radha, Rs 20 lakh for her family, job for a family member in the railways and security for passengers.
Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia also visited Radha’s residence on Wednesday and offered a financial assistance of Rs 15,000 to the family. Meanwhile, Sivasagar deputy commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha informed that Rs 5 lakh has been handed over to the girl’s family.
The incident has sparked an outburst of anguish among the netizens too.
The body of the girl, a student of B Sc 5th semester of AAU, with several injury marks was recovered from the toilet of the Dibrugarh-Rangia Express when the train had stopped at Simaluguri railway station.
