Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Tura canceled as SPG rejects Pawan Hans Chopper

Guwahati/Shillong, January 29: National President of the Indian National Congress, Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Tura has been postponed as the Special Protection Group (SPG) rejected the use of a Pawan Hans helicopter issued for his visit.

He was supposed to visit Shillong, Jowai and Tura on January 30 but now he will only be visiting Shillong and Jawai while his visit to Tura will be rescheduled.

It has been stated that the helicopter was rejected by the SPG as it was at least 20 years old and it does not meet the safety features for the transportation of the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Speaking to TIME8, working president of MPCC and MP Vincent Pala said that Rahul Gandhi will visit Meghalaya but he will only visit Shillong and Jowai. His visit to Tura has been canceled as the helicopter that offered to him was rejected by the SPG due to lack of safety measures.

He added that his visit to Tura will be rescheduled but the date is yet to be fixed.

It may be mentioned that the Pawan Hans helicopter is known for many crashes in the region. There are reports that show that in 2011 about 31 people, including Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu were killed in various crashes.
