Raid conducted at forest official’s residence in Saualkuchi; animal parts recovered

Guwahati: In a major operation, the Hajo forest office on Wednesday has raided the residence of one forest official at Bonkhor area in Saualkuchi under Kamrup District and recovered two large assault rifles, a large quantity of ammunition and empty cartridges, nets used in large-scale poaching and other offensive weapons.

The forest official identified as Arup Baishya has been suspected to be involved in animal poaching and illegal wildlife trading.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of forester 1 rank official, Sangeetarani Sinha of Hajo forest range.

The forest team also seized two Tokay geckos, bones of various animals, shells of tortoises, spines of porcupine many more from the residence of the Baishya.  

Currently, forest official Arup Baishya, a forest official at Kulsi Range Forest Office is reported to be absconding.

Meanwhile, the Hajo forest range officials have decided to continue their operation for further pieces of evidence into the case, informed sources.
