Guwahati: The chairman of the Coordination Group, Bharat Jodo Yatra, All India Congress Committee Digvijay Singh has approved the proposed appointment of Ramen Barthakur, Senior Spokesperson Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, as the state coordinator of Assam for Bharat Jodo Yatra.

The announcement was officially informed by the General Secretary to the All India Congress Committee and in charge of Assam Jitendra Singh.

It may be mentioned that already the Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, led by Rahul Gandhi, completed a week last Thursday.

Earlier, Veteran Congress leader and MP Jairam Ramesh came down heavily on Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday saying that the latter’s effort to dismantle the Congress party and its Bharat Jodo Yatra campaign would be futile.

Ramesh, who was in the city, announced that the party would conduct an Assam version of the Bharat Jodo Yatra from November 1, 2022.

He said, “No matter how much Sarma tries to destabilize Congress and influence its MLAs, Congress will not stop. We don’t care if any MLA leaves us like Sarma who has been a Congress-person for most of his political career. He should not preach to us but concentrate on working for the welfare of Assam.”

Citing Sarma’s previous comment in which he mocked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to conduct Bharat Jodo Yatra in Pakistan and Bangladesh, Ramesh said, “Assam chief minister said that India is united and doesn’t need to be united anymore but it’s a fact that the country has been divided during BJP regime. Now, the country is witnessing tremendous economic inequality, social polarization and Centralization of power creating a massive division amongst various sections of the society.”

“Here people are divided over their finance as BJP party is favouring only a handful of their business partners like Adani and Ambani creating massive division in the society. In today’s India, people have been divided over their religion, culture, and food habits. Moreover, with total Centralization of power, the rights of the states have been snatched away by the Prime Minister’s office (PMO),” he added.
