Rape-accused AIUDF MLA denied bail by Gauhati High Court

Guwahati, July 12: The Gauhati High Court refused to give interim pre-arrest bail to All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA from Algapur, Md Nizam Uddin Choudhury, in an alleged rape case registered by a married woman in Hailakandi.
However, the court on Wednesday asked the police to submit the case diary on July 19 after which further hearing on his bail plea will be held, as per reports.
Hailakandi police registered the alleged rape case on July 6. The woman, in her FIR, claimed that her husband Sahid Ahmed Laskar took her to meet the MLA at Hailakandi Circuit House on May 19 where the legislator raped her. The second time, the woman claimed, the MLA raped her at her house on May 23. Police have arrested Laskar for working as a “facilitator” – based on the complaint filed by the woman.
