The State Transport department on February 22nd, 2020 suspended the online bike taxi aggregator-Rapido services in Guwahati for operating without the permits, licenses from the District Transport Officer.
Based on specific inputs a team from the Transport department conducted raids at the Rapido office in Guwahati’s RG Baruah road and instructed the aggregator to shut down their services in the city.
District Transport Officer Bapan Kalita informed the media that a three-day notice was issued to the bike aggregator last year to produce permits but they did not produce any documents.
The online bike taxi aggregator based out of Bengaluru was founded in 2015 and currently operates in more than 95 cities across the country. In Guwahati, the services started way back in 2018 and around 1,000 bike taxis are operating in the city flagged off by the former Transport Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya.
It may be mentioned that the operations are going on against other app-based services in the city by the Transport Department.
