Guwahati, February 13: Out of the 11 approved Guwahati Smart City projects, only one project work is underway.
This has been informed by Assam Industries Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary on Tuesday while giving a status of the Guwahati development and beautification projects under the India’s Smart City Mission.
As per the Minister, rehabilitation and beautification of Gandhi Mandap works are underway since December 4, 2017 where Rs 2.9 crores have been released. The Minister also informed that the project is likely to complete by April 2018.
The Minister was replying to questions raised by MLA Phani Bhusan Choudhury on the project works.
Guwahati which is among the 90 selected cities so far by the central government for the multi-crore Mission and avail central assistance for implementing various projects right from the preservation of the wetlands to beautification of the city parks aims for a sustainable development of the city.
With the recent status provided by the state government briefs a sorry state of the mission. As earlier in a review of the projects, the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry showed dissatisfaction with the progress of the Guwahati smart city progress where most of the projects were reported to be lagging in implementation.
The 10 other projects which is yet to be started includes Borsola Beel development project worth Rs 212 crores, Mora Bharalu Riverside development project worth Rs 488 crores, Bharalu River beautification project worth Rs 434 crores, Brahmaputra riverfront beautification for Rs 826 crores, Preservation of Deepor Beel wetland project for Rs 250 crores, Any Time Water project for Rs 2.09 crores, Bio-toilet project for Rs 9.53 crores, Establishment of Monumental flagpole for Rs 2.58 crores, Installation of smart LED street lights for Rs 49.10 crores, Setting up of Kiosk for Rs 19.15 lakhs respectively.
