Guwahati: The rebel Adivasi groups in Assam are all set to sign a ceasefire pact with the Government of India in New Delhi in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday.
The insurgent groups include Birsa Commando Force (BCF), Adivasi Cobra Military of Assam, Adivasi People’s Army, All Adivasi National Liberation Army, Santhal Tiger Force and two splinter groups.
The groups are in ceasefire and living in designated camps.
Informing about the development, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Held a meeting with rebel Adivasi groups, currently under ceasefire, regarding final settlement to be signed on 15 September 2022 in New Delhi in presence of Hon’ble Union HM Shri @AmitShahji. I’m sure signing of the agreement will usher in a new era of peace & harmony in Assam.”

The groups had earlier in 2012 laid down their weapons before former Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, following an assurance by the government to fulfil their demand of ST status to nearly 80 lakh members of the Adivasi communities.
