Earlier in the month of February,  two Manipuri insurgent groups Zomi Re-unification Organization (ZRO) and Kuki National Organization (KNO) had dashed off a letter to the national president of BJP, Amit Shah requesting him to give a ticket to their favoured candidate HS Benjamin Mate for the Outer Manipur Parliament seat. The letter was shared on social media platforms. The BJP, however, went on to give the ticket to Mate.

Post the filing of the nomination now, reports are doing the rounds that the Commander of the KNA, Thangboi Haokip has threatened the village heads in Moreh to ensure that 90 per cent votes are cast in favour of the BJP. The insurgent leader has further threatened of dire consequences if they fail to do so, as reported by News18.
