Region: One killed in landslide in Meghalaya; Rain continues

Guwahati: One person killed in East Khasi ills district, Shillong, in Meghalaya, in landslide occurred due to the incessant rain pouring for the last 24 hours in the region. Meghalaya, Assam and several parts of northeast were up for heavy rains as per the weather department.

The deceased was identified as one 43 year old Sidres K. Sahnoh of Jongksha village, Mawkynrew Block.

Besides the landslide, due to heavy rainfall, Wahumkhrah river, flowing along Demseiniong was flooded. Instruction was given to PWD, SDRF and police there to initiate immediate assessment of the situation and necessary action to avoid any further damage and inconvenience.

Also, the guard wall of the Border Security Force (BSF) compound at Umpling was partially damaged as it collapsed due to the heavy rainfall. No casualty was reported.

A wall in Madanriting Block-C was reported to have collapsed, leaving the debris spilling to adjacent premises of the Madan Hindi Patshala School. No casualty was reported there.

As per the authority, incident of landslide also reported from  Pynursla Road and flood at Hubert Memorial School, Umpling.
